Retailer Feature: A'hoy
A’hoy is a small shop located in a picturesque corner of Deep Cove in North Vancouver, BC. The locally owned shop stocks products that complement the area’s Pacific Northwest backdrop of mountains, forests, beach, and water. We recently got a chance to chat with Megan, one of the owners at A’hoy, about the growth of the store and what they have planned for the future.
Q: Please introduce yourself
A: Hi! My name is Megan and I’m one of the owners here at A'hoy. We're a small crew so I wear a lot of hats, but my focus is on buying, merchandising, and creating new A'hoy Goods.
How would you describe A'hoy as a store to someone who has never been before?
We're a West Coast inspired shop run by locals in an amazing community called Deep Cove (about 20 minutes outside of Vancouver, BC). From our shop patio, we look out at the mountains rising from the Pacific; It's a truly spectacular place for people who love the outdoors. We hand-pick our favorite pieces from brands like Nike, Patagonia, Reigning Champ, Stussy, Herschel Supply, and produce our own product under the A’hoy house brand.
How long has A’hoy been open now?
We opened our doors in July 2013 and are really excited about the growth of our house brand as well as the continued evolution of A'hoy Goods. We're deeply committed to this community and have a family of three shops in Deep Cove. Stay tuned for four, and five, and six! Haha.
What types of products and brands are you doing really well with right now?
Our really customers appreciate comfort, quality and style; our biggest selling brands are Herschel Supply and A'hoy Goods.
How important is social media to A'hoy's marketing strategy?
Social media is a game changer. We almost exclusively use Instagram to let our fans know what's new and what's inspiring us. It's an amazing tool to create a visual language for your brand.
I saw that A’hoy has an ecommerce store in place; how is that going for you?
We're a small crew running a busy shop in The Cove so we don't get to spend as much time as we'd like growing our online business. Anyone who runs an e-commerce site knows that it's a full-time gig! We've actually just invested in additional resources to step up our e-com game and are currently working on a site redesign.
I can see even more A’hoys opening up in the future! Do you have any plans to expand any further?
